November Mission Model Discussion: M11 - PIPE CONSTRUCTION

Welcome to the November Mission Model Discussion! From now until just before Thanksgiving this space will feature ONE part of the FIRST LEGO League HYDRO DYNAMICS game challenge per day. The Robot Game is only 1/4th of the overall FIRST LEGO League challenge for teams this year! This post is meant to be an aid, not a replacement for carefully reading the Challenge Guide!
At the Beginning of the Match: The blue, New Pipe and Optional Loop are in Base. The Loop and New Pipe are not connected.
Required for Scoring: The New Pipe must be in full flat contact with the mat. For Partial Score, partly in the black target area. For Full Score, completely in the black target area.
Conditions: None
Score: Partial Score: 15 points, Full Score: 20 points
Note from Oregon Head Referee Tom:  Scores at the end of the match if a New Pipe is either Partly or Completely in the Pipe Construction target and in full flat contact with the mat. You may use the Optional Loop from Base - you may not remove the loop from the Broken Pipe. (Robot Game Update 3) If you use the Optional loop, it does not have to be inside the target volume. Remember the target volume goes all the way to the wall, even if the mat does not.

Real World Impact: New industry and housing developments require new access to water and greater access to water. This means new pipes and new pipelines need to be built and connected to existing systems. Sometimes new lines need to connect additional water sources being brought into an existing system. Whether it's manufacturing, cooking, household use, or medically clean water reliable clean water sources are very important wherever people live.

Discussion: If you use the Optional Loop for the Pipe Replacement mission the loop is not available for this mission. Does that make this mission harder to do? Without other physical pipes to contain the target zone is it harder for your robot to find the target?
