IOchamps1: We Are A Go For State Championships!

Congratulations Championship Teams! You are already a winner just by attending this event. It is our goal to make the day as fun and exciting as possible. Team members will be busy and the pits will be a hopping place. If you did not see it please review the announcements that went out on December 15th. These are important for all teams.  More information will be posted in the coming days.

To read this quick note as a blog post.

If you have not seen, Assignments have been POSTED

Saturday, January 19
Sunday, January 20

We are thrilled to have two days of 60 teams of excitement!

From December 15:

JUDGING NEWS:

  • Core Values Posters are required at the State Championship. Your team will be expected to bring a Core Values Poster (see page 4 of the Challenge Guide) to the judging room and spend 1-minute sharing their board with the judges. Core Values will happen; activity, poster, questions.
  • Robot Design Judges have asked that your team maintain a log of changes that are made from the Qualifying Tournament to the Championship tournament. The judges would like to hear about these changes as part of your 1-4 minute Robot Design Executive Summary. They also want to know why you have made changes or adopted a new strategy. Additionally, Judges would be thrilled to see pages of your Engineering Notebook, if you have one - they are not required, although they will not have time to read them after your judging session.
  • The project judges will nominate teams to share their presentation in the Project Presentation Showcase (being asked to share your presentation does not mean your team is being considered for an award). Judges will also be looking for a team or two to nominate for the Global Innovation Award.
  • See more judging information on the Oregon Judging page

ROBOT GAME NEWS:

  • We will be strictly enforcing rules so make sure your robot is fully in compliance with all game rules and updates. While Benefit of the Doubt will still be a referee tool, expect stricter observation from our experience referee team.
  • Scoring will be done at the robot game table. Once your team agrees with the referee, they will sign the robot game scoresheet on the tablet and their score will be uploaded to the server. Paper scoresheets will only be used if there is a technological glitch.
  • Robot tables (with tray tops) will be provided for use in the arena. Our space is snug, so please keep the equipment you bring with you as small as possible.
  • See more on the Oregon Robot Game page.

TOURNAMENT LOGISTICS:

  • The pit and entire upstairs of the venue will be exclusively for teams and volunteers to use. Spectators may only be in the gym and cafeteria.
  • Food cannot be consumed in the gyms (including the pit gym) we ask that team parents DO NOT camp at cafeteria tables during the lunchtime periods. Teams will have a 30-minute break at some point in their schedule to eat. This can be any time between 11am and 1pm.
  • Your team will have name stickers and wristbands. Both must be worn to access the pit and judging halls.
  • Your team will be using stairs, if this is a challenge there is one small elevator. If you told me about a challenge on the application form we are already working to ensure all relevant key volunteers are aware of your needs.
  • *NEW* LODGING! - The Hilton Garden Inn has a room block for FIRST LEGO League teams, volunteers, and parents. Please use this webpage to book your room. This hotel is 10 minutes down Hwy 26 from Liberty High School!
