CS13 - Congrats All!

Greetings FIRST LEGO League Oregon,

In today's FIRST LEGO League Oregon Update we will cover these items:
  1. Congratulations Champions!
  2. Jumpstart FIRST LEGO League/FIRST Tech Challenge
  3. Robot Development with Duck City
  4. Out of Office - again

If you are new to this email or blog this is the place where you will find all of the OREGON specific FIRST LEGO League information, as well as helpful guides to get your team through the CITY SHAPER FIRST LEGO League season. Coaches and team administrators in the FIRST system for the CITY SHAPER season will be added every Monday until March, automatically. Every update this season begins with CS (CITY SHAPER) and a number, that number lets you know which update it is, if you miss an update you can find it on our blog.

1) Congratulations Champions!

The Intel Oregon FIRST LEGO League Championships were wonderful! For those of you who were able to join us, thank you! All of the awards, including the high robot scores of the Robot performance teams. You can also see, or share, photos on our yogile pages. You can even revisit the Livestream!  All of these links are on the event website.

A special congratulations to team 96 Gears in Motion and team 27643 LEGO Legends for their 1st place Champions Award wins. Both teams have been invited to attend the World Festival in Houston, TX this April.

2) Jumpstart FIRST LEGO League/FIRST Tech Challenge

Do you have a neighbor or coworker who is interested in FIRST LEGO League? Is your team aging out of FIRST LEGO League and ready to start FIRST Tech Challenge? Jumpstart is a great way to get started on the basics before the new season begins.

FIRST LEGO League

Teams who are looking to jumpstart for the 2020 season may register their FIRST LEGO League team now and have that registration carry over to the new game released in August!  You also can choose from the following past challenges. Your team will need a LEGO EV3 or LEGO SPIKE PRIME robot kit to use with these missions. Offer expires on February 21 For more information or to register

FIRST Tech Challenge

For team members in 7th-12th grade, FIRST Tech Challenge trades the LEGO for metal, wood, and 3D printing. By registering now your team's registration will carry through to next year. You will also be able to order the discounted reusable parts, including the brand new Rev Control Hub, which will not be available to all teams until next fall! This is a great way to practice some FTC blocks or java and learn the basics of wiring and building a FIRST Tech Challenge bot. Offer expires March 1.  For more information or to register.

3) Robot Development with Duck City

FIRST LEGO League Oregon team Duck City set the state high score with a robot run that saw them bringing in 540 points! They received many requests to share some robot tips with other teams. To accommodate as many teams as possible they have created a form to collect the information of everyone who is interested so they can schedule a day to share. If you would like to learn from this Portland Metro area team, please use this form.

4) Out of Office - again

Cancer Sucks, but I'm hoping this is the final round of treatment. I am out of the office for approximately the next two weeks, but I will still have some email access (once I'm not too radioactive to touch a computer). I plan on working from home for the bulk of these two weeks. This means if you call, I won't be able to return your call, but I should be able to answer any email questions.

I apologize for getting this email out so late. I had intended to send it last week, but was waylaid by the medical institutions and what ultimately resulted in a shift in schedule, but at least not a complete postponement of treatment.  Quite honestly, I'd rather deal with FIRST systems for a month than spend another day dealing with this medical system stuff, and we all know how intuitive they aren't. At this point my treatment is on a timeline, so I feel safe letting you know I'm no longer in the office.  I can't wait to be back to full speed and celebrating with all of you!

Best Wishes,
Loridee
