Welcome to the November Mission Model Discussion! From now until just before Thanksgiving this space will feature ONE part of the
FIRST LEGO League HYDRO DYNAMICS game challenge per day. The Robot Game is only 1/4th of the overall
FIRST LEGO League challenge for teams this year! This post is meant to be an aid, not a replacement for carefully reading the Challenge Guide!
At the Beginning of the Match: The Faucet is secured to the mat in the Southeast corner. The scoring element is in the down (white) position.
Required for Scoring: The water level (scoring element) must be more blue than white when seen from above the cup.
Conditions: The water level must be moved by turning the Faucet handle.
Score: 25 Points
Note from Oregon Head Referee Tom: Scores at the end of the match if the disc is more blue than white as viewed from above. The model’s faucet should turn smoothly and not spring back to the original position when released.
Real World Impact: Faucets are most people's most common connection to the human water cycle. Most of us use faucets multiple times a day for cleaning, getting drinking water, and for caring for our pets. Faucets run an average of eight minutes per capita per day (pcd), according to a study by the American Water Works Association Research Foundation in 1999. How many times do you use a faucet each day? What are all the reasons you use a faucet to get water throughout the day?
Discussion: This model is a long way from Base. The Faucet handle is not easy to access as it is angled between the model and the wall. What is the hardest part of this mission for your team?
