Welcome to the November Mission Model Discussion! From now until just before Thanksgiving this space will feature ONE part of the
FIRST LEGO League HYDRO DYNAMICS game challenge per day. The Robot Game is only 1/4th of the overall
FIRST LEGO League challenge for teams this year! This post is meant to be an aid, not a replacement for carefully reading the Challenge Guide!
At the Beginning of the Match: The Sludge is on the conveyer belt at the Water Treatment model. The Sludge falls to the mat when the toilet is flushed completely. The garden boxes are part of the mat decoration near the Fire and Toilet.
Required for Scoring: The Sludge is touching any visible wood on any of the 6 garden box drawings.
Conditions: None
Score: 30 points
Note from Oregon Head Referee Tom: Scores at the end of the match if the Sludge (from the Water Treatment Plant) is touching the wood of any of the six garden boxes. Referees may be lenient about the Sludge and wood contact.
Real World Impact: Sludge is a byproduct of cleaning wastewater. There are several types of sludge, depending on how the sludge will be used after the wastewater is treated and how it is treated. Some sludge, like our mission piece, are highly organic and are the result of organic materials pressed and dried and reused as a fertilizer. The process of cleaning our wastewater is a complex system of filters, bacterias, and chemicals to remove harmful concentrations of chemicals, organics, bacteria, trash, and other items. New uses for the sludge byproduct are being created all the time. Sludge that cannot be reused is taken to landfills.
Discussion: To get points for this mission you must also complete the Toilet/Water Treatment Mission. With so many steps is this a mission your team is working on? Or is it something you are saving for the state championship?
