November Mission Model Discussion - Intro

ANIMAL ALLIES robot challenge mat
Welcome to November!  This means in Oregon we will be doing a daily series on each of the missions in this year’s FIRST LEGO League robot challenge. From now until Thanksgiving we will post a detailed look at a different mission or robot game rule. Some Oregon specifics may be included from our state head referee that will make your qualifying tournament experience better.

Please remember that everything you see in the November Mission Model Discussions are NOT the official rules. Please refer first to the Official Updates, then the official rules. These posts, which will be cross-posted on both our Facebook page and our blog and are for coaches and teams to discuss in preparation for their tournament. Each post will contain the mission name, what is required to score the mission, how many points the end conditions are worth, and when relevant a limited discussion on the real-life applications in the mission - this will be new this year!

Some things our Oregon Head Referee Tom would like all teams to be aware of: We prefer that Mission Models stay in Base or on a Tray with the two Technicians who are at the Table. The Team members who are not the current Technicians may hold Robot equipment, but please leave the Mission Models near the Table where the Refs can easily see them (R12).

Veteran teams should review the “Serious Changes for 2016” notes on Page 20 of the Challenge Guide.

Teams may not store any game materials on the Mat outside of Base (R10 and R12).

Reminder: The “Interrupting” rule (R14) means that teams may only have one chance to deliver an Object from Base out to the Field.  Once the Robot is completely outside of Base, Interrupting the Robot while it is Transporting any Objects will result in all of the Objects being removed from the game. Please read and understand R14 completely.

Let's Discuss: What is your favorite Mission Model this season?
