If you are new to this email or blog this is the place where you will find all of the OREGON specific FIRST LEGO League information, as well as helpful guides to get your team through the CITY SHAPER FIRST LEGO League season. Coaches and team administrators in the FIRST system for the CITY SHAPER season will be added every Monday until March, automatically. Every update this season begins with CS (CITY SHAPER) and a number, that number lets you know which update it is, if you miss an update you can find it on our blog.
1) Congratulations Oregon Teams!
Over the past two weeks, your team participated in their FIRST LEGO League Qualifying tournament. While for many this marks the end of their competitive journey this year, it is also a great time for celebration. This year your team has come together and created an innovative solution to a problem in their community. Please encourage your team to continue their work on this! The spring is a great time to learn about the US Patent process and discuss ways to make their ideas a reality.
Most importantly, take the team to celebrate. They have accomplished so much. What they have done this fall is truly remarkable. What you as a coach have accomplished is equally as astonishing. You have brought together a group of kids, organized parents, and created a spark for the future. Thank you! Don't forget to celebrate!
2) State Championships - Why you should be there!
The State Championships are January 18 & 19 at Liberty High School in Hillsboro. These events are your best opportunity to see what is possible with FIRST LEGO League in Oregon. Your teams can learn from other teams and watch their robot rounds. Sometimes seeing what is possible inspires the next step for your team. Want to see more than just the public areas? It takes nearly 200 volunteers per day to make the Intel Oregon FIRST LEGO League Championships happen. We could use your help! Only have some time in the morning? We need people to help check in 60 teams in just a matter of minutes! Have more time? We have lots of roles that need filling. It's also a great chance to just have fun at the end of the FIRST LEGO League Oregon season.I hope I'll see you there!
3) Tournament Photos! Please share.
Thank you to the people who have already uploaded photos from their qualifying tournaments! I'd love to see more of your pictures. Please upload your photos to our Yogile page. You never know, you may find your photo in this year's state program, or on next year's fliers! I also thoroughly enjoy seeing all of your event photos, it's almost like I got to be there!
4) Feedback - Please Check Your Email
Coaches, please watch your email for the Oregon Coach Survey coming this January! Your feedback is critical to helping ORTOP keep our funding and our focus where it is doing the most good. Even if everything was perfect, it really helps if you tell us so! If you have ideas, I'd love to hear them. Please watch for an email from Loridee with a survey monkey link.5) Qualifier Awards are Posted
The awards lists are posted for each Qualifying Tournament (except Ontario). You can find them on the ORTOP Tournaments webpage. Congratulations to all of the teams who were recognized at their qualifying tournaments! We will see many of you at the state championships.
Short and sweet today. These emails should start becoming once a month rather than on a weekly basis. I am back at ORTOP, but not fully at 100% yet. Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and warm wishes. It lifts my spirit that we have such a remarkable and compassionate community. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday break.
Best Wishes,
Loridee
