Oregon Update: 16

Welcome to the official FIRST LEGO League Oregon Update. All Oregon FIRST LEGO League Coaches are automatically added to this list weekly! In each update, which you can read in an email or on our blog (cross-posted on both G+ and Facebook), you will find out what is happening in Oregon, the important things from Headquarters in NH, and tips to keep your team on track. This blog will be posted nearly weekly and all posts are archived. All official updates this season will be numbered HD# If you've missed an update, please read the archive to catch up!

1) Happy Holidays from ORTOP
I hope all teams, coaches, and volunteers are taking time this holiday break to enjoy the cool, crisp weather, the joy of family, and to share fun stories from this season's qualifier season. Even teams who will be joining us at the state championship deserve a break for the holidays. ORTOP will be closed on Monday and staff will be in and out of the office over the next week.

Whatever you are celebrating, we wish you the merriest of winter days!

2) Team in Need of a HYDRO DYNAMICS Kit
One of the teams who has advanced to the state championships from the Corvallis tournament is in need of a HYDRO DYNAMICS field setup kit to practice with. They would be happy to return it after the championship. If you can share your kit the team is in the Eugene/Springfield area. If your team can help, please contact James at ajrawland@hotmail.com or call 541-870-8075.

3) New Game Update
I know it is quite late in the season for another game update, but FIRST has finally issued an official ruling on the Filter Lever. Thankfully, it is in alignment with the default placement we used in Oregon. However, I do know several teams did request the referees to move the lever to the up position. If your team is advancing to the state championship in January in Oregon or Idaho, please note that the lever will be placed DOWN at the beginning of the match. All teams should check their mission to make sure their robot still works when the lever starts down. It is our opinion that this is the more reliable working condition for this model.

What if your team isn't going on? As always, we encourage your team to continue working on the missions through the spring. This is a great time for the team to grow and expand, bringing in members who will make up next year's team. Additionally, there will be some off-season events for teams this year. Teams in the Roseburg area, we are working on a spring showcase event. Girls teams closer to Portland are needed to help showcase FIRST LEGO League at Girl Scout's Girl Fest. Other events will be announced as they approach.

4) Thank your Sponsors
As our competitive season draws to a close, please take time to reach out to all of your team's sponsors with a note and photo, of gratitude. If your team can share a personal story of how much the sponsorship meant to their team, what the team learned, and what they plan to do with those new skills it helps your sponsor see how much their contribution really does make an impact.

If your team received an ORTOP sponsorship this year, we are putting together packages for each sponsor. Please feel free to email photos and stories to fllthankyou@ortop.org or send them by mail to the ORTOP office at 4800 SW Griffith Drive Suite 215, Beaverton OR 97005
