If you are new to this email or blog this is the place where you will find all of the OREGON specific FIRST LEGO League information. If you are in the FIRST Dashboard as a team coach of a registered team for INTO ORBIT you will be added to this list every week for the rest of the competition season. Every update this season begins with IO (Into Orbit) and a number, that number lets you know which update it is, if you miss an update you can find it on our blog.

1) Where Did Loridee Go?
If you have contacted ORTOP recently, or even emailed Loridee directly you may be wondering, where is she? If you've received a reply from Caryn, Jacie, or anyone else you may also have questions. I am currently out of office several days a week while dealing with an urgent medical problem. I haven't forgotten about any of you and it deeply pains me not to be your rapid resource that I strive to be. However, I will NEVER leave you abandoned.  All of ORTOP is pulling together to keep you informed and provide program support to the best of their ability. I miss you all, am looking forward to a thrilling tournament season, and hope to be back with you full time again soon. Sadly, this medical issue is going to take time to deal with.  This may also impact the frequency of emails and blogs you receive this year - and like this one, they may not all come on Friday.

2) National Registration - CLOSING SOON!
National Registration for teams that will be participating in the Oregon Qualifying Tournaments will be closing on October 10 at 4pm! We are trying to give all teams as much time as possible to be able to participate in this amazing space themed season! National registration is completed at www.firstinspires.org. Your registration is complete when you have paid your national registration.  If you need help with the cost of the program, please reach out to ORTOP, we have heard about yet more available funding and are happy to share that information with those for whom it may apply. This year's tournament structure has PLENTY of room for additional teams.

3) Tournament Registration - DELAYED
ORTOP is moving tournament registration for the Oregon INTO ORBIT events to October 10 at 5PM. Tournament Registration will take place through a link on the ORTOP. This will NOT use the FIRST Dashboard and will NOT show up in the FIRST system. Your team will have 1 week to complete their registrations, but tournaments may fill early. Please look over this list of tournaments for this season.  Please note: the Ontario tournament will be administered by Robin Baumgartner in Idaho and WILL NOT sign up through the Oregon process. Teams outside Malheur County should attend an Oregon event.

4) Challenge Updates!

There are currently 3 updates for the INTO ORBIT Project Challenge and 3 updates for the Robot Game. All of these updates will be used at the tournament! Make sure you keep up to date by checking the updates periodically on: https://www.firstinspires.org/resource-library/fll/into-orbit-challenge-updates-and-resources

5) NASA Chats

NASA is running a series of webinars for teams on Deep Space Travel. They take place every Tuesday at 11am.

6) Table Available
Free FIRST LEGO League table (the wood parts that hold your challenge set). Please contact Hari for details: hrajagopal@yahoo.com

7) Looking for a Volunteer to Cater
The FIRST LEGO League Championship is looking for a volunteer to fill the role of a caterer and provide our hundreds of daily volunteers with breakfast and lunch at Liberty High School at the state championship in January. Our current volunteer is stepping down this year and we hope that a member of our community will be excited about this role! Please contact Dominique-Deweese@ortop.org  if you are interested in filling this key role!

8) Expert Nights with Astronaut Dr. Michael Barratt
To attend the expert night with Dr. Michael Barratt on October 17 & 18 your team will need tickets. Tickets are reserved for Nationally Registered teams and their coaches (or 2 adult chaperones), it is unlikely that there will be additional tickets. There will be two talks each night at 5PM and 7PM;  their content and speakers will be the same. Ticketing information will be sent to coaches on October 10. If extra tickets are available on Monday, October 15 additional FIRST teams in the other programs will be invited to attend.  At least one panel will be live streamed on Youtube.  We hope your team will be able to join us!

Even though I am not in the office every day right now, we are still here to help you and your team. Please don't hesitate to reach out to ORTOP or our volunteers with questions you have throughout the season!

Best Wishes,
Loridee
