FIRST LEGO League Championship: Announcement 3 - Links and Info

Greetings FIRST LEGO League Oregon Championship Teams,

In this post you will find:

  1. Tournament Assignments and Payments
  2. Tournament Information Page
  3. Coach Information and Parent Letters - READ CAREFULLY
  4. Robot Design Executive Summary CORRECTION
  5. Volunteers NEEDED!!!

1)  Tournament Assignments and Payments
In case you missed the December 23rd announcement, tournament assignments have been posted on the FIRST LEGO League Oregon Public Team Information Page.  Want to see who else will be at your event? Check the tabs labeled Saturday and Sunday!

Has your team paid for the championship? Payments were do yesterday, so if your team does not have a green YES in the Paid for CT column please fix that immediately!

2)  Tournament Information Page
The Championship Tournament Information Page is LIVE! The page is linked on the ORTOP main page, and the ORTOP Events page

On the Championship Tournament Information Page your team will find:
  • The General Event Schedule
  • Coaches' Letter
  • Parent's Letter
  • Maps of the venue
  • Map to Liberty High School
  • Team Introduction Pages (the same as the QT form)
  • Championship Award Summary
  • Core Values Poster Information
  • Robot Design Executive Summary Information
  • Core Values Observation Policy - which will be used!
  • Team Roster Information - Needed at Check-in!
  • Weather Cancelation Policy - but it's going to be sunny and winter-warm, so we won't worry about that, yet.
3)  Coach Information and Parent Letters - READ CAREFULLY
Please take the time to read through both the Coach Information Letter and the Parent Letter. Several little things have changed from past years. All coaches are REQUIRED to know the information in the Coach Letter. If you will be wearing a badge that says coach, please make sure you read it.

4)  Robot Design Executive Summary CORRECTION
In the last email, I introduced the Robot Design Executive Summary. One team who read carefully noticed that the Challenge Manual and the ORTOP system do not mesh on the timing. After consulting with Oregon Head Robot Design Judge, Krishnan Duraiswami, it has been decided that teams may use 1 to 4 minutes for their Robot Design Executive Summary in the Robot Design Judging room at the state championship. Please keep in mind, however; that the longer your summary lasts, the less time judges will have to get clarifying answers from the team.

Your team's robot design summary should help the judges answer the basic questions about your robot, programs, and game strategy. It should also show your robot in action, very briefly on the judging room table.

For more information please see the Tournament Information Page.

5)  Volunteers NEEDED!!!
Approximately 175 volunteers are needed each day to make the Intel Oregon FIRST LEGO League Championship Tournaments presented by Rockwell Collins a huge success for the 120 attending teams. We still need some volunteers to fill roles!
Parents are welcome to join us as are older siblings. We need people in the following roles:
  • Judges (all types), must be unaffiliated with a team AND an adult
  • Judge Queuers
  • Scorekeeping Team Members
  • Team Runners
  • Practice Room Bosses
  • Game Announcers
  • Security Help (provide direction help and be in a designated locations)
  • EMT/First Aid - works well if you also provide security
If some of the team parents, your next door neighbor, or your coworkers would like to join in on the fun by volunteering please help them register as a volunteer, make sure they select the Intel Oregon FIRST LEGO League Championship and complete their background check. Volunteers will be assigned as soon as their background check clears.
Volunteer judges will also need to complete an online class prior to the event.

Thank you all!

Best Wishes,
Loridee
